John Halls of Physical with Adam Waters of Shreadquarters at the Shreadquarter Games in Aug 2022

On 20 August 2022, Newbury in Berkshire hosted the inaugural Shredquarters Games – an exciting day of challenges and competitions organised by functional training franchise The Shredquarters.

An exclusive event for the Shredquarters community, all 10 clubs were represented.

“We wanted to create an event that would bring all our gyms together, giving our franchisees and members something to work towards and further building our sense of Shredquarters Family,” explains The Shredquarters founder Adam Waters.

“Alongside the competition, we also had food trucks, live music, a bouncy castle and an event commentator. We wanted it to be a fun family day out, as well as a chance for our competitors to show what they could do!”

In attendance at the event were around 300 people, with 130 athletes from across the Shredquarters community being cheered on by friends and family.

The competition spanned a number of tough events – from bike sprints + devil presses to kettlebells–deadlifts–weighted runs – with participants tasked with doing as much as possible in a set timeframe. Equipment was provided by Physical who were, says Waters, “brilliant as always”.

All events were completed in same-sex pairs, with five male and five female teams taking to the floor in each heat to battle it out side-by-side. Overall winners received trophies, goodie bags and, says Waters, “most important of all they now have serious bragging rights!”

One club also emerged with strong bragging rights, with overall male and overall female winners all coming from the Twyford club. Huge congratulations to Duncan Mollison and Dan Walton, Clair Godfrey and Rebecca Warner – and, of course, to the trainers at Twyford who prepared their teams so well.

“It was wonderful to feel everything come together and see, in one fantastic snapshot, how far we’ve already come as a brand and as a community,” says Waters. “It also filled me with even greater ambitions regarding how much further we can still go!”

“It really was a great day, with an incredible turnout and everyone absolutely buzzing for The Shredquarters,” says John Halls, managing director of Physical, who attended the event as a sponsor. “Physical was delighted to support the Games as part of our hugely valued partnership with the fast-growing Shredquarters franchise.”

The Shredquarters Games will now become an annual event, with Saturday 5 August 2023 already confirmed as next year’s date.

“We invested around £20,000 in making this year’s Games a huge success, and next year it will be even bigger and better. I’m thinking music festival, pyrotechnics, the works!” says Waters.

“However, it will still be members-only. Fitness events have become big business these days, but while it’s nice to put The Shredquarters even more firmly on the map, we very much see our Games as a highlight of our own members’ annual calendar.”
