Why HIIT circuits continue to claim their spot in the world’s top fitness trends

When the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) unveiled its 2023 worldwide fitness trends, they made for interesting reading.

Now, in a new blog series, we’re taking a deep dive into the trends where we specialise – something Physical is uniquely placed to do as a market leader in 13 of the ACSM’s top 20 fitness trends for 2023.

Our topic this time: HIIT and circuit training. In the ACSM’s list, these came in as trends 7 and 12. For us, they are two sides of the same coin.

That’s because HIIT (high-intensity interval training) isn’t just about getting your heart rate up on traditional cardio machines (although Physical does sell cherry-picked cardio equipment, as well as great range of boxing and combat equipment). Do a functional circuit-based workout – kettlebell swings, tyre flipping, TRX-assisted jump squats, bodyweight beasts like burpees – and you’ll soon feel your heart pumping fast enough to burst out of your chest!

In fact, reading through the ACSM’s list of trends this year, it feels like there’s quite a bit of overlap: HIIT and circuits, but also functional training and body weight training, the latter often being incorporated as tools to deliver the former.

Speaking of tools, let’s talk equipment, with HIIT and circuit training falling squarely into our heartland. We can say with some confidence that whatever you need for your HIIT circuits, you’ll find it in the 1,900+ product Physical catalogue.

CV stations – curved treadmill, for example, or Stairmaster HIITMill? We’ve got you covered. And when it comes to free weights and functional equipment, quite honestly, what don’t we have?! Check out our website and you’ll find an unparalleled range of world-class products, from kettlebells to medicine balls, plyo boxes to slam balls, battle ropes to sandbells, ViPRs to TRXs, BOSUs to Swiss balls to PBX bags to dumbbells to barbells to sleds to tyres… It really is all there, and more, from brands you can trust for a premium workout experience, time after time after time.

And so your HIIT workouts and circuits need never get boring, with varied and versatile equipment that underpins hundreds of different, highly effective exercises.

This really is the perfect way to deliver fun, fresh, results-based workouts that keep members engaged – and all without it having to cost the earth, with functional training tools highly cost-effective compared to larger pieces of traditional cardio and strength equipment. It’s a win-win for gyms and members – and indeed trainers, with these workouts also great fun to instruct.
