Project scope
When Fives Soccer Centres set out to introduce an ethos of performance and personal progression to its offering, one of the projects on its radar was the conversion of the Hamilton centre’s under-used bar and function room into a gym space.
Fives founder and CEO Scott Penman approached Physical Company to bring the concept to life. “I had the idea, but with no fitness background nor experience of doing anything like this, I didn’t know where to start,” he says.
Mission
Fives’ personal development philosophy spans both its football and its fitness offerings.
In football, sessions are filmed and performance data recorded, so players can see how and where they might improve.
In fitness, personal trainers, physiotherapists, sports injury professionals and other experts work one-to-one with customers, creating bespoke programmes “to support them in their personal journeys and help them become the best version of themselves”.
Strategy
The new 200sq m Pinnacle Gym is designed for functional training predominantly, with a wide range of free weights, select pieces of CV equipment and a Pinnacle-branded turf area.
“We’re catering for everyone and every goal, from weight loss to sports-specific conditioning and everything in between,” confirms Penman, “but we aren’t aiming to be a mass market brand. We work at an individual level, focusing on quality of delivery.”
The results
“Physical Company has been brilliant throughout,” says Penman. “They immediately understood what we were trying to achieve, and the space we had available to do it, and in no time at all had come up with a fully-costed design that was ready to go. They were also brilliant at managing the whole process, taking the pressure off me.
“I can’t speak highly enough of Physical Company and will 100 per cent work with them again. We’ll be doing six more football centres over the next three years, of which two will definitely have gyms on-site, and possibly a further two. We also have a few locations in our existing portfolio that we may look to retrofit.”
